Saving Old Seagulls

i bought a 102 off ebay as first seagull, one to work on over winter and now i have another one, WS1736F0 were does it end

It doesn't end. It grows. Soon you'll be running out of room.

Next purchase is BSF spanners, and an engineers' vice. Jet keys. Manuals.

You'll spend hours on the main Saving Old Seagulls site, and other on the web. You'll probably be tempted to buy a Clymer manual, or even the strange Meyer one. You'll watch Ebay every day, and you'll start to notice other people who have a Seagull on their transom. You will possibly learn the serial number identification pages by heart.

It builds into a bigger workshop, more bizarre excuses to the wife who will want to know why you have one boat and twenty seven engines for it. She will want the test tank and stand put away each time you've used it, and she won't understand why you use the dishwasher for petrol tanks or carburettors.

Your trousers will smell of rancid two-stroke mix and will, like your shoes, be spotted with oil. Your neighbours will resent you running your unsuppressed machinery which interferes with their TV. Your nails will be permanently black, your fingers will have ingrained soot and rust mix, your lawn will have dead spots where you laid a motor down.

In short, my friend, you are doomed. Doomed I say...

It's all true I'm afraid. I grew up using seagulls in the scouts, always been fond of them.
A year or so ago I took on a seagull overhaul for a friend. Within 2 weeks I bought another locally. Then a SD and 2 102s in bits, then a barge pusher, then an AC (because it was cheap and had a bayonet tank) Then an AD came along as well as another SD. I then bought a 40 plus, because it had an elusive SD throttle lever fitted, I then discovered the little 40 model for £30 and drove to Bristol from Derbyshire to pick it up. I've now got 2 more to restore. To make matters worse, I then found a Anzani twin very close and got that also.

I now sniff with pleasure when a lamretta goes past when everybody else is coughing. I need help. Others have it a lot worse than me

so there is no hope for me now then i am even thinking of keeping car on drive so i can get large workbench in garage.Very gratefull for replies nice to know i am not alone in my madness.

Garages are NOT for cars...... they are the next step up from a shed somewhere that will take your lathe without it falling through the floor.

Damn, Metalicavian Virus has spread to Spicewood Texas. Two Silver C's and a 40+ have entered the bloodstream of this sexanagerian and have caused loss of sleep, increased blood pressure and alcohol uptake, change in urinary ability.. ie. pissed off from time to time, and reduced conjugal avaiability. One of the most hideous affectations seems to be the mental aberation which causes the sufferer to try and spread the compulsion to other more sane aqaintances.

Surely collecting the engines is merely a superficial affliction. What is really worrying is my reasoning that I got to have additional boats to match each of the engines in the shed..........
