The day that I was glad I had an Evinrude 6 not a Seagull

Just got back from my hols.

Thought I would post this video, as it was one of those "Blue Planet" moments.

This was 3.5 miles off Fowey in Cornwall, we chased a large pod of dolphins, about 100 for over an hour.

They were chasing herring, rounding them up by breaching and tail splashing.

I had to keep turning the motor off because there were so many around the boat.

This is a rare site in the UK, and I am sure my kids will never forget it.

I did say to HID "if you have got your camera on the wrong setting, I will never speak to you again"

The things you see when you leave your harpoon at home!

That was worth the drive to Cornwall!

That could be Perth local waters. So clean and blue. The dolphins are different but what a wonderfull time for you.

They are so very cool doing what they do so well.

They tell me that Greenies put far too much pressure on them to be in need of "Protection"...........they reckon that they know what they are doing and will outlive humans anyway without the help.

I tend to agree.

Cheers

Fantastic, your kids will never forget that day out, I still have some cherished memories of some similar porpoise encounters over 40 years ago.

That does look like a lot of fun. It's a treat when they pop around, in single or a bunch of them.
Glad the camera worked properly.

I'm the second one in the flick, just off camera...

I think it's even better in a sailing boat, definitely takes me back to my childhood with my Dad who was very much into sailing and would do everything in his power not to use a motor under any circumstances. I remember being out at sea, listening to the test match commentary, and laying back enjoying the sun while my Dad was down below putting the kettle on, all of a sudden a porpoise jumped, vertically, right out of the water close to the boat - it scared the living daylights out of me, until I realised what it was :) great days and even sweeter memories.

Must be a Mercury man, not an OMC man :D

You know I've never owned a Mercury, but it was the one I always wanted, the black finish and the cowels of the seventies designs always were the most eye catching for me, back in the day as a teen - sounds like I had a lucky escape :)

I have a Mercruiser outdrive on my boat though - does that count?

I think as dolphins are very intelligent they were crowding round, trying to work out why on earth anyone would be running an Evinrude when they could have had a Seagull :(
