Saving Old Seagulls

I get one Seagull outboard and one in bits today. Bad transaction as the condition wasn't as described on the phone. After receiving the pallet I face the mess. The legs are hardly salvageable. Only one silver century good block, one crankcase broken and no carbs, only one from a bike. I feel better when testing the Wipac (MK2) ignition I get 5.2Kohms so it should be OK and the other ignition was tested and also gave spark. Backplate is broken as you can see so if anyone has one spare, please let me know.

I hope you enjoy the video, the Curlew is here because she needs some parts. The cylinder head is cracked and welded as it had run for 10min without water. At least it has a spark.

The MK2 flywheel has bigger openings than the usual. Is that something that happens?

Stelios, I have a set of silver century crankcases, and an ingnition backplate if you need them.

How do you get away with doing things like that in your kitchen?

Thank you very much Adrian!! I must check what parts could I use and what parts I need to form an engine. I will let you know. The flywheel of the MK3 that I spin on the video did it come from the factory in this way or with a recoil start? I have the housing of the recoil start but the top with the spring inside it is missing. I would prefer to use it without the recoil start. Would that be correct or the flywheel should be covered with the recoil start?

Jan excellent picture! Unfortunately I don't have a dishwasher, at least for such use! But if it is beneficial to the parts maybe I think about that twice!

If anyone has a drawing of the magneto/recoil start it would be quite helpful.

Stelios, I don't recommend the outboard parts cleaning in dishwasher procedure.

The aluminium transom bracket turned into black.

No problems with the BSA WM20 gearbox housing and gears I cleaned in the dishwasher before.

For bronze/brass parts it should be beneficial as the cleaning stuff is like caustic soda but not so strong. For aluminum parts yes, it creates a layer of corrosion, the black one it appeared on the bracket. I prefer petrol bath and wire rotary brush. From the afternoon and for 6-7 days the gearboxes and the the waterjacket will remain filled with gas and oils.

Give us a close up of the top of the engine ..it looks abit strange

Pictures of the flywheel. I have the housing of the recoil but something doesn't match. If I try to screw it on the backplate the rope pulley stuck on the recoil' housing. Any clue?
