HT bits wanted

I keep encountering HT leads which have been damaged. Invariably someone has wrenched the brass plunger out of the bakelite fitting at the coil end of the lead and mangled the little spring - and frequently they have lost the plunger and substituted a small brass woodscrew.

I am keen to find a source of those fittings - or even to know what the spring is made of so I can wind my own - I have been told it's a type of copper/beryllium alloy - anyone know?

I do find that a new HT lead enhances the performance - especially on starting. I generally use rubber plug caps which work very well (even if not entirely authentic) for 'working' Seagulls, but it's nice to put a proper bakelite one on a classic - which brings me to the next request. Anyone know where I can get the end terminals for the plug end - you know, the round plated fitting that's flattened, with a hole for the plug?

Charles - take a look at the website Complete Automobilist. co.uk - they have the spade terminals for 70p each.
You could almost certainly get the brass studs and springs from Ignition Supplies in Devon, or Meetens - Wimbledon I think. Rick
