Is my impeller facing the right way?

Hi, I've decided to give the engine a minor overhall before I take it out - assuming that I get it going!
This is not a great photo but you should be able to see the blade angles for the impeller - are they facing the right way?

Looks good.
The upper ring has all the markings on it and should face up that picture view.
"TOP" should be there aye.

My engine is pumping water but not very well. I don't get a steady pencil thick stream of water from the outlet - it splutters out and is quite hot. Here's what I've tried:
1. Propeller removed.
2. I'm revving quite quickly (but not too fast because without a propeller there's no load on the engine). I'm aware that seagulls don't pump at low revs, but the engine is spinning fast enough.
3. Varied the depth of water in the dustbin (exhaust is 2-4 inches below surface).
4. Moved position of impeller up and down the drive shaft (lowest point is a few mm above the gasket because I don't want to rip the material).
5. Pumped water from a garden hose from outlet in the top - water passes through to the bottom very well.
6. Removed the gearbox and connected a host directly to the bottom of the copper water feed - water passes through the top outlet (pencil thick and steady).
Anyone got any ideas?

It's the wrong way up surely?
Picture below shows correct way!
The disc should be uppermost and upto 1/16" clearance between the rotor and joint plate is correct

But the OP's photo shows it the opposite way to the diagram in my post above.
So, "NO it is not facing the right way".

I think you will find CI is agreeing with your last statement ie "YES - it is facing the wrong way.

Problem solved - my impeller was upside down with the 'teeth' facing the wrong way. I now have a steady stream of pencil thick water from the outlet. The engine is ready for its sea trials this Thursday. Thanks for the help.

His post is is headed "Is my impeller facing the right way?"
