Saving Old Seagulls

Any body got an ideas on what this is/was. & what the motor is. It has plenty of compression & that's as far as iv gone yet. Found in the local scrap yard thismorning.

It is a Bitsa. Nothing wrong with that aye.

The bottom end is from a Mermaid, and the BIG one at that. Originally for that gearbox with a 3 blade propeller they were rated at 6Hp. 188cc air cooled Hurricane industrial engine.

The motor plonked on it is a Bitsa Victor lawnmower motor 125cc. That is probably why your one has a 2 blade prop of god Knows what. That probably so the Victa can spin it.

Thanks for that info, I have plenty of good 160cc Victa motors. Will get to it one day & see if its got spark & clean it up.

Un beliveable Inspector. Today I got to it & freed up the throttle slide that was stuck flat out. Checked the spark & it was a nice fat blue spark, filled the fuel tank choked the motor & 1st pull & it goes. It runs well & idles quite smoothly, does sound like a lawn mower though. Might look into fiting an exhaust to go down into the water. Next step is pull it apart & clean every thing, & give it a go on the back of the Tinny. I do like aircooled outboards as this is the 3rd to the collection. Might have to get rid of some of the Seagulls to make room.

The only concern at this stage is the corrosion on the pinion cog as the crown wheel is in good condition? Is the pinion going to be reliable? Will be removing the grease nipple some one has soldered to the brass filler plug. Its been filled with grease to the point of blowing the seal out on the shaft. At this stage it looks like its the only part that will require replacing on the leg. The pinion is 10 teeth & the crown 35 teeth. And the flywheel has Victa special cast in it.

This thing goes great clocked it on the 10Ft tinny using a GPS at 8Knots & up & planning, realy happy with it.
