Would anyone have a suggestion as were to purchase straight 140 gear oil in Canada? Not really wanting to buy it from the UK due to exchange rate and postage cost.
This is for a 1972 40 plus.
I have asked at a local auto supply house. The fellow called several manufactures that distribute in Canada, IE Castrol, Pennzoil... Its available in the states.
Is there a work around such as mixing a bit of grease with the 90 and then adding that to the box?
90 weight is very common here.
For now I have 85w-140 non synthetic in the box but have not put it in water with this oil yet.
Not even sure the 85w-140 oil will emulsify with any water that invades the gear box.

The Vintage or classic car people might be the best area to start with.

Or maybe an agricultural outlet that supplies oils for tractors etc.
Is there anything like that in Canada?

No luck so far with the tractor farm suppliers.
I'll ask my buddy who owns several antique vehicles about it. Google comes up blank for Canadian sources.
I tried mixing in a bit of Grease with the 90 oil I have and it mixed really well I then put in some water to make sure it would emulsify and it did. May go that route.

What is it about the 85w-140 that is not liked? Is it the EP additives that are suggested to cause damage to bronze brass and copper parts? Or is it a viscosity issue. There are newer 85w-140 oils that do not corrode yellow metals.

Still can find it here. Will try using the marine outboard grade 90 with a viscosity thickening agent called honey in a can, AKA STP

Transoil 140. Ok for day use but be careful for long distance/endurance.

Jolly good,

Always happy to promote an Aussie product. Let me know how they treat you as I've been recommending them for a while.

I almost became a Canadian but the toss of a coin bought me downunder. Quite apt considering the gambling tradition here
