Seagull Serial Prefixes

Hi all
After recently coming across one or two not-as-common Seagull serial prefixes I thought I might see if we could all attempt to compile some sort of record for the not-as-common/ strange prefixes you've found on Seagulls.
Recently on eBay, I came across an SJPR which I personally haven't seen or heard of before. According to the serial identifier, there is a possible error in the serial #. Would this be the case of a mis-stamp or similar?
Cheers
BP

Try it again, but this time remove the R, which stands for factory reconditioned.

Quite common this Boyd.
Anything with the letter R in its serial number indicates a factory "refurbishment".
Plenty of motors around like this. I thought you knew this already!

Except some of the later motors with fuel pumps they used the R to signify "Remote Fuel"
I though you knew this already!

this seagull is just up the road from me, and found the engine id on site could not identify.
i was not aware British seagull would have refurbish. but i guess that makes sense.as this day you buy then throw most items.
interesting, so much history and a little mystery at times with seagull.

The R can be a bit misleading at times, as the R seems to have got stamped just about anywhere in the serial number that had a space for it to fit. Or you would get the crank case completely changed and it would all got re-stamped.

You took your tired old outboard to the factory outlet, paid your money, &walked out with the same model that had been subject to a complete refurbishment.
This applied to almost every model except it is believed for the Little Forty series.

Yes Charles, ref Little Model Forty.
There are examples of the FVs having new crankcases fitted (by whom I do not know, but possibly by the factory) and just being restamped without an R in the serial number. Certainly I have no record of a F, FV, FVP, LS or LM with an R stamp.

Out of curiosity have we seen any magazine adverts or similar advertising the factory exchange/refurbishment?
