Extra Long Long Shaft?

Did Seagull make 2 LS versions? My Silver #WSL 617JJ6 seems to have an extra long shaft. If that is the case, why the extra length?

They only made a standard shaft and a long shaft, yours must be homemade!

Drive shaft tube length is 24.5" so no such thing as an extra long long shaft. However, that is longer for most, if not all, outboards sold here in the U.S. Brands such as Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Honda, et all, have shaft lengths of 15" for short and 20" for long. Not sure why. Anyone care to guess?

Displacement hulls also had taller back ends.

15 and 20 legs are for planing hulls. Different concept.

Good question though.
