Looks like quite a large outboard.

Is most of it there?

Tell us a bit more about it.

From what I've read on internet its 18hp , built around 1960 and was way ahead of its time . Seems to be all electrically controlled and rather than have a reversing gearbox you restart the engine backwards to come astern . I read some other stuff on this site from years back . This one is a bit battered but I think mostly complete and not seized . I would like to get it running but could be a nightmare ! It looks like they were only produced for a couple of years so maybe wasn't a roaring success !

Quite a rare outboard, it will be interesting to search out parts for sure. I think that one had a remote battery/fuel tank?

Yes I think you're right , I don't think it will run without a battery , there is no pull start option !

Most of these were 12 volt, but late models were 24V, so take care.

These have a very complicated 5 piece crankshaft not including the con rods, with ball races, bronze & needle roller bearings, if the crank needs a rebuild & if you can find anyone to do it, don't expect any change from £500.

I can't see the reverse lock in your pics does it have one?

This is unlikely to be a quick easy restoration.

Nice find.

Not sure if you've already searched these forums. If not check out the links below, as they contain lots of Magnatwin information and pictures.

I am aware of one only in Australia, owned by SOS member Collector Inspector. He may be able to provide additional information/assistance, should you need it.

Thanks for the comments and info . The reverse lock is intact . It's only the second outboard I've heard of that starts backwards to go astern . I worked on a ship years ago with a six cylinder Deutz that did the same . Anchor was always prepared when coming onto harbour just in case it didn't restart !
