Saving Old Seagulls

Hi Folks, new member here looking for some advice from the kind members of this forum. managed to persuade my brother in law to finally let me have his old seagull that's been stored in his attic for the last 20 years. its a 40 plus No sjp20147. most problems I have managed to sort out so far next step is to fit a new fuel line, but in the fuel tank I found this ( see attachments ) rattling around, it looks to be stainless steal and is hollow all the way through, the bulbous end looks as if it should push into a hose / tube of some sort. Question is should it be attached inside somewhere or is it something that has been dropped into the tank by accident ? I just cant see any reason why it should be rattling around in the tank. Thanks tambikeboy that's what I was thinking as I cant see any reason why it should be in the tank, I guess someone must have dropped it in there by mistake when the tank was full and the forgot to retrieve it later on. also looks to new and shinny to be part of an old seagull. thanks again, cheers.

Not quite as bad as a surgeon leaving his tools inside someone, but getting close lol
