Checking a mk II coil

I attach photos of a mark 2 ignition and the supposed way of checking
I think I must be missing something obvious but here goes
I put a voltmeter on the 200 ohm scale (the minimum) on the bit jutting down (ht lead receptor, point A) and on fixing bolt to base plate point B
Should be 4.78 and I get the number 1 that the voltmeter started with before applying the leads
Obviously the picture only shows the position of the leads - I had to take the photo!
What am I doing wrong?

Open circuit.

I gather that you had no spark initially?

I don’t know - it came from my spares box. The real question is what is the proper way of testing a mk2 coil.....?!

And I should have added .... by a layman without the knowledge or the equipment to do it professionally....

Go up a scale to 2k,200 might be a bit weak for measuring resistance on the coil

Still nothing on A to B or A to C
Interestingly, on the 200 scale, the B to C measurement goes from 0.3 points closed to 1.3 points open, so something is working!
