New project.
Stripping an old engine down today, pretty simple I thought, Now which end had a flywheel on I wonder.
Lucky enough I didn't remove the piston, as it only goes one way up, both crank ends have a keyway, but 180 degrees out.

Re: New project.
Is one end left hand & the other a right hand thread? Keith.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: New project.
Both are right hand thread. Charles.

Re: New project.
When you zoom right in there are not many clues, Hepolite deflector piston, steel conrod, big end pin threaded/bolted in, so the chances are it's English & it might just be older than it's owner.
Is there a prize for anyone who get's it right?
At a guess Dunelt?

Re: New project.
How old do you think I am, No don't answer that.
No its not Charles, unlike a Dunelt, this was in my price range, in other words it was cheap.
I don't think its all that common, even though I have seen ads for it, but never seen one in the flesh.
So you are right in as much as it is British and probably as old as me, so there's a good chance you may have owned one from new.

Re: New project.
As I know Keith it must be a 50s or 60s engine! Made in the midlands? Leicester?
Re: New project.
Originally founded over seas, but it is a British made motor from the 50's, about ten years before I turned up, I would like to add.
Around the London area.
Now you should be able to work it out with all the clues.

Re: New project.
J.H.L. is for the foundry parts. They are still in business.
This cast mark appears on other outboard brands as well.
The only thing I can not place is a double end taper.......
An I said that the CRANK assy looks like J.A.P.

I did not, once again, say it was a JAP. Just the crankshaft kit may well be. In saying that, please post pics both sides of rod for me?
