Re: SD restoration
Hello Charles, Ah I see..hence the removal of the nipple in the lower casting on later engines, no need for lubrication as the bush had been deleted. Thanks. I do like these 102s I must admit. They are forming a bit of a queue :D Parts search is going well, I've found a original throttle lever, (I t...

Re: SD restoration
Back to the restoration, A question, why does the SD have a bush in the end of the driveshaft leg, but later 102s don't seem to? I understand why the bush is there, but am baffled why it is not present on the AD and TC legs I also have?

Re: SD restoration
Plenty of the former, all by the river or canal. Could certainly arrange a day cruise!

Re: 102 box waterpump housing
This is the one if have, which is corroded somewhat. Managed to get the leg off ok! Also gave it a bit of a scrub. There is just about enough left for the exhaust to seal onto. If you want it just pay the postage.

Re: 102 box waterpump housing
Do you mean the lower casting? If so I have one, but it is quite corroded and the leg is still attached. I'll check it out and get back in the next day or so

Re: What's happened to my drive
Where the screw is refusing to budge, apply a little heat to the area where the screw screws into. Then use a pair of molegrips on the head to get it moving. If it comes out suggest you invest in 2 new stainless bolts and oil/grease the threads.

Re: SD restoration
Just had a detailed look at the crank cases. Crank rotation is good and all the crankcase bolts fit smoothly through both halves of the crankcase. When bolted up there is a small step about 5 thou across the gasket face, this photo makes it look worse than it actually is. The cylinder spigot is also...

Re: SD restoration
Well, the crankcase bolts fit easily, and the crank rotates with no bother at all. After a closer look there is a slight step between the crankcase halves which I did not see last night as I only loosely assembled. The cylinder goes on ok, but is a little tight when the location spigot on the cylind...

Re: SD restoration
I've got some more done over the last week. The cylinder has been degreased and given 2 coats of black gloss, with a rub down in between. It will harden off for a couple of days before spending a couple of days next to the log burner to fully harden off. I've also assembled the replacement crankcase...
