Re: Crank shaft bearing lengths

The tank support looks like it is made for an oval strap on tank, and the prop is a 9" straight bladed one, is that any help identifying it Charles?

Re: Crank shaft bearing lengths

Thanks for your reply Keith, I suppose I was hoping someone would say the replacement crank cases are of a later type that can run 25:1, but thinking about it maybe the crank shaft would have to be longer too..

I'll run it some more with the correct 10:1 mix and see how it goes..

Crank shaft bearing lengths

I've searched for this info but it's eluded me, so I hope you don't mind another newby question

I have re-built my very clogged up and seized Seagull bitza and got it running, started second pull! No wonder people love these things :D

As there are no engine numbers on it, I am wondering if the ...

Re: Hi from a novice Seagull owner..

Putting the flotation issue to one side for a cogitation period, I have taken the seized Seagull apart for a looksee.

The gearbox was almost full of that white corrosion that comes from ally, and no sign of lube anywhere apart from a dryish coating in the gears that has saved them, but for slight ...

Re: Hi from a novice Seagull owner..

I saw one entered in the Dartmonth raft race years ago 1992 - just a sealed shell. They had a much lower number than us and so started earlier. They did really well until they got to the wier. It had all but sunk when we passed it.

It is often the failures that stick in the mind more than the ...

Re: Hi from a novice Seagull owner..

Can you measure the weight each wheel is carrying with you in it & give us a cross sectional sketch with the wheel locations & the external dimensions, I think without outriggers you might have stability problems.

Those Robins had enough stability problems when on three wheels, the tracks look ...

Yes I think a little forward planning is called for to avoid embarrassment and such ...

Re: Hi from a novice Seagull owner..

Thanks for you thoughts and encouragement chaps,

Skytm, a stunt double would be a way round it, but when this goes in the water there will be a lot of witnessed around, so not an option I can use.

Keith, I really want to get it floating without outriggers, although in the end it may be the only ...

There are lots of voids that could be foam filled, the the petrol tank under the rear could be replaced with a block of polystyrene, and large blocks could be put under the front behind the headlights.

It weighs around ...

Hi from a novice Seagull owner..

Hi there, joined this very informative and helpful forum as I have been given a Seagull (SJM 35057, says 1961 on the flywheel) for a silly amphibious project I am working on.

What a little gem it is, started second pull after many many years laying in a shed
