Thanks, we got a few people ask us about the motor, including one young fella who said he used to have a seagull.

I'm happy to report "Beattie" had her first outing this weekend and all went without a hitch.

We motored five miles up river, moored up at a pub for a bite to eat then five miles back.

Did a little GPS speed check and we maxed out at 5.2mph. Now I know she's reliable we'll have a few more outings ...

I don't know as I didn't split the lower leg section. Just opened the box to clean and re grease.

Mine is at the very bottom, above the gearbox.

From this very rough schematic I've thrown together, is this correct that the exhaust gases flow into the impeller housing, then out via the two small holes on the opposite side of the prop on the gearbox? I can't see a way ...

Completed a strip, clean and inspection of the lower unit now, happily the pinion, bevel and bushes look like new!

The old grease had a "marmite" like colour and consistency. The still present sticker on the cowl states Castrolease underwater grease for the gearbox.

Did you find out how much the permit was for the Derbyshire Council stretch? It's different to the normal BW pricing so never found out as you have to get it from Tapton Lock visitor centre.

I'm nearer the bit the canal vanishes... but use the towpath now and again for bike rides along the TPT into Rother Valley.
