Thanks all! That is a lot of good info.
I will have to strip the gearbox and then I will contact John for the price of the spare parts.
The motor has always been a long shaft - my father bought it new in '62 (I still have the bill of sale) and it has been in the family all the time. The number ...

Clutchless (or should I say clueless?)
L1001725.JPG
One nice afternoon my 40+ started to behave as if it had a clutch. The motor was running, but not the prop.
As shown in the pictures the axle going down in the gearbox has become round, I suppose it should be square. Right?
It seems as if I need to change the lower end of the drive ...

REMOTE FUEL TANK
50 years ago my father bought a 40+ which was fuelled by a pressurized system. It is shown on the nostalgia pages.

Got it in one!
Quite right Charles, a side bracket for a 40+. My father had i made in the early 60's for the then new Seagull I am still using.
Originally it had a flat piece of mahogany to mount the standard bronze bracket on, but after a few years he realized that less is more and had it remade.

Anybody's guess
Is there anybody out there who can guess what this is (well, maybe not so hard). And I don't mean the workmate
Just wanted to share now when the forum is up and running again.

Henrik

Re: cutting out
Hi, apologies for a really dumb suggestion:
Did you open the air intake screw in the filler cap of the fuel tank? The only reason I ask is that I did just that last summer. The only way I could get my 40+ to run that day was by shutting the choke half-way. Next day when I remembered the air intake ...

Re: Hello and a bit of TLC needed...
On remote tanks:
In 1962 my father bought a 40+ without the black tank. For an additional cost the standard tank was replaced with a 10-litre steel tank with a brass pump, a rubber hose and a bayonet-type connector for the fuel line of the motor. The hose was connected to the motor, about ten ...

H-A spotted it as always
I was thinking of the missing locking pin - I just hung the motor on the bracket to take the picture. Well spotted :D
Well, I was wearing a lot more than the shirt and a lifejacket, the temperature in the air and the water were both about 8 C. Brrr! So if the motor had gotten the shirt off my back ...

OK, let's try a picture
Anyone see what's wrong in the picture? (Not the rag or the twisted mooring line)
Henrik
Thanks for the image handling info!

The origin of the name 40+
They are called Forty Plus for the simple reason that they start despite being 40+ years old.
