Quite right Charles, a side bracket for a 40+. My father had i made in the early 60's for the then new Seagull I am still using.
Originally it had a flat piece of mahogany to mount the standard bronze bracket on, but after a few years he realized that less is more and had it remade.
The advantage of side-mounting is that you can pull the starter cord from behind the motor, the motor will not tilt up when the cord is pulled. The disadvantage is that when you hoist sails again and the boat starts to heel over the motor gets a bath.
The bracket is for sale next spring, should anyone be interested. It is located in Sweden.
