Montesa is a well known Spanish motorcycle company in the 50's they had ties to Bultaco
and Motobecane. They did like to develop successful ideas from other manufacturer. For example they are working with Honda at the moment and have taken the Trials World Championship.

Re: block surgery
Nice fix Geoff, another engine saved!
Did a similar fix on a French engine block, drilled and taped each end of the crack and then ran some braze over it to seal.

Re: One for the kids
Thank you Journeyman, I did not know Optimist already existed in the 40's. I considered it as a modern boat. (although "modern" in my thinking would be "vintage" in most's). Sandro Yes Clark Mills was a well known naval architect in Florida, most of his work was deigning large l...

Re: One for the kids
It’s not a requirement of the class rules Sandro so most aren’t fitted with them, also they would get in the way when hiking-out. But you could easily fit them, when Clark Mills designed them for an Optimist Club back in the 40's I’m sure they would have been able to row them.

Re: One for the kids
The Walker Bay is a very tough boat and makes a good work boat or tender. It’s main drawback is that it is Crank, meaning it has high initial stability but once it goes beyond a certain degree of heel it capsizes quickly without warning. In a lot of ways it’s good to give children a boat and let the...

Sorry to hear this news, reading of Adrian’s adventures and plans for new ventures was inspirational, he showed what a Seagull is still capable of.
Condolences to his Wife,

Re: New to British Seagulls (40 Plus)
Hi Nik, Yes the exhaust will get to hot to hold but will cool down quite quickly, it does not get as hot as a motorcycle exhaust. Don’t remember ever burning myself on the exhaust as normal running you are nowhere near it. Usually leave it to cool down on the transom after a trip before lifting it o...

Re: New to British Seagulls (40 Plus)
Hi Nick, Welcome to the group. The motor looks good, do you have the complete clamp? To answer your question there are two manuals the first is the original “Seagull Workshop Manual” that John can supply, there is also a "Spare Parts List" and lastly an "Owners Handbook" that wou...

Re: Genuine “barn find”
Well done, nice find the motor looks realy good. Bell Woodworking made the GP 14 that’s why that dinghy class has a Bell emblem in the main sail. You could buy them as a kit for home building, everything came accurately machined to size, it’s my guess that a lot of the shorter parts would fit in tha...

That is one hell of a fine collection you have Bruce, I remember when you moved it some years ago and was impressed then.
Glad to see it’s still growing.

Re: Am I on a slippery slope?
When you build the shed make it three foot bigger than you think you need to build the largest boat you are thinking of building, the ideal boat is always three foot bigger than the one you have.

Re: Seagull refueller
The are from the 1970's, as you can see the advert is for decimal money and that happened in 71. I have the same can as in the advert, steel can plastic spout. Previous Refuellers had round tanks and rubber pipes for the transfer of the fuel. The one in the advert works well, if you stick the spout ...
