Fuel tank mounting pads
Folks - I'm swapping the steel tank on my silver century with the brass long range tank. I don't have the fuel tank mounting pads. Are these standard parts I should order or are there off-the-shelf alternatives I could use? Thanks
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
john has them for 1.50 GBP per pair. they are just thick card so you wouldnt need much ingenuity to make a couple and you dont see them anyway! they are 1/16" thick and the outside diameter is 1 and 1/2". cheers
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
Thanks. Had a suggestion from off-site. Does anyone know whether leather washers would work?
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
you could just use a couple of those white washers that they put in CD and DVD cases to protect the discs . they are the right size with a slightly bigger centre hole which wont matter. leather or rubber would still work too
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
I've used roo hide in the past.
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
nice idea hugz. where do you think our american friend might find some of that?I've used roo hide in the past.

Guys - Thanks a lot. I gather heat is not an issue? By the way, in years past I spent a couple of weeks in Hobart and other parts of Tasmania and loved it. What a great place to operate a seagull. And on another unrelated business trip to Queensland, I did buy my wife a purse made of roo leather which she greatly admired. Very much appreciate your responses.
Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
Not one of these I hope!

Anyoner else from here in civilisation find this Colonial preoccupation with the kangaroo scrotum a little bit, well, scary?

Just the tip of the iceberg

Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
i have toyed with the idea of having a seagull race on one of our rivers for a while now. What a great place to operate a seagull.
trouble is i know only two local seagull owners and one or them doesnt even own a boat! not only that i have never been in a race and dont really know what is involved in organising one.but we do have some great waterways here......glad you liked the place! cheers

Re: Fuel tank mounting pads
The baby Roo washers will not work at all. I can't believe you are serious.
The water will cause them to deteriorate quickly. Up here in the north we harvest beluga whales and use the hide for the washers. Very resistant to wear and moisture.
Much better and you can chew on them as well if you get low on food.
Harvesting method shown below.

I've found that neoprene fender-size washers work fine. Home centers (Lowe's, Home Despot) have them as do many of the remaining smaller franchises (Best, True Value). And yes, I've seen nylon washers of the correct size as well.
