Smoking topic

Post by Tonyseagull »

...is it just me or have folks found the lager capacity seagulls smoke more than the small 40's...I am woundering if the lower compression ratio of 60psi in the larger engine block causes this and the higher compression 130psi of the small blocks makes for more complete combustion thus less smoke?

I have no idea on relative compression issues but simple maths points to the fact that a 102 has approximately 59 % more capacity. At 3000 revs that's 114 more litres of exhaust gas per minute (ignoring temp expansion etc) with a 102.

If it is a problem consider moving to 25:1 (if you can) and start using semi synthetic TCW3.
