Starter cord

Hi can anyone tell me a good diameter for the cord? i bought one off john last week but it's just not doing the job, on the second pull both knots pulled through one snapped the t handle the other pulled through the slot and jammed under the top so some stouter cord is called for.

Try putting a double knot on it.

I've used all sorts of ropes, even used a tree vine once when I was caught out. A slow steady pull rather than a sharp yank

I use the 4.5mm cord, as I used to work with Honda's and chainsaws it was always available and never once had a problem.

The starter cord should be 5.5mm and 650mm long. I am not sure if the length includes an allowance for the knots or if that represents the useful length after the knots are in so I would leave a little extra and them trim as required.

I use a screwdriver base as a handle. That's the rubber sleeve that goes over cheap screwdrivers to hold an assortment of bits. The hole in the center is perfect when holding a figure 8 knot. I tried it this summer. Worked well and doesn't bite you if you lose control.

that seals it then. i'm carrying a tree vine in my spares kit from here on out. the way i see it, if it works "down under" it'll work damn near anywhere!
