Looks a bit short, I am working on my long "quick and cheap use it for a few years is great" boat at the moment

You can make lots of boat for £1000.00 even if you use Epoxy.

Rotomoulded boats are supposed to be virtually indestructible, no painting, no maintenance, don’t rot. Just featureless can’t change the colour. Closer affinity to bathtubs than boats but it one way of geting out on the water.

If you mounted a Seagull on a rotomoulded PE hull it would be like crossing over to the darkside.

Might as well mount a Paysun 4-stroke on the transom and have done with it.

Not the 'ethos' of the Seagull.........

And I'd like to see you repair the PE boat hull that was punched against the canal wall by a ferry or drifter.

Still, at least it's making use of old PE Coke bottles..........that should not have been sold in the first place.

What part of reduce, re-use, (and only then) recycle, do these plastic mongerers not understand.

Seagull. Still going strong after 50-some years, largely unchanged in design philosophy, content or context. Reduce consumption (no changes, no new models). Re-use (multiple owners, spare parts available everywhere), old Seagulls now becoming collectible and recycled for PROFIT!!!! Whatever will they think of next!

Be interesting to see how many PE boat hulls are still "going strong" in 50 years time.

You've misread the terms of my wager,

My boat with all the seats full, so that's one person as only 1 seat.

Powered by one Seagull that's my blue 170.

You wouldn't be much faster if you were on your own in yours, but no point in giving you a sporting chance, us Poms are not famous for that, so fill all the seats!

That should make up for your extra 21hp.

from what I can see this is the most anti boating country in the world..British waterways want 200 quid for me to put it in the canal for a 6 hour cruise ..thats because if you carnt lift it in they judge you need a crane and attendent saftey assesment .....they can get stuffed ..have built a trailer with a built in extendable ramp as they say the trailer is not part of the launch equipment ....

Thats why i use the sea it's free and alot less to bump into. I used to use polythene canoes on white water we used to repair any holes with lego bricks melted with acetone it seemed to work fine and a good colour range

Well went to Morton boats in Lincoln and bought a 3.7m boat as below.
Reasons...

the wife liked it
No need to stitch and glue in cold britian.
Boat will have re sale value
Boat can be kept outside in winter.
A stitch and glue strong enough to be crushed against the lock walls by a 25 tonne canal boat would take some designing
this thing is indestructable
takes 7 people
takes 25 hp ( my kind of speed )

Polyethylene?

Tough as anything. I've used Pioner 15's for dive support. Incredible load carrying capabilites and you can ram large vessels with them .....

You can drag poly boats over rocks, not have to worry about painting them and generally subject them to abuse that would have any wood/epoxy or glassfibre hull reduced to shards in minutes. Easy to repair, too.
