Seagull Sail Drive

Post by Vic »

way back, 1970s??, Seagull made a saildrive.

is this the remains of one http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk/scuttl ... ct-update/

I am told they were a total disaster. Anyone know what the trouble was.

Vic - Charles would tell us better, but Seagull made two 'Saildrive' motors - the 110 and 160 - see the 'Inboards' section on this site. The 160 was based on the 170 outboard powerhead with the inherent weaker big end cap.
They must have been bitches to maintain both inside and outside the hull, and there were stories of them choking by breathing in their own exhaust.
Another problem must have been that quite a small boat had to drag a gearbox and dead propellor through the water which was considerably larger than other makes of equivalent HP.

The panel in the picture looks larger than would be necessary for a Seagull inboard/outboard.

Thanks.

I'd not noticed the section on the website about the "inboards". It must be new

OT sorry
the video is terrible, it seems the boat at sea during a storm, at least that's the impression that watching a video like that.
how come no one firmly holds the camera or phone and let the chosen subject fills the frame?
yet it is not difficult here, it takes the pills for seasickness
come from the sea and the sea will return

Seagull "Sail Drives" or whatever other three OEM "Z Drives" and other three "Sail Drives"........Anyone got a setup install picture or brochure for a possible "Gull" version?

Personally down Under, I think Not. May be wrong, let me know?

Just in passing question and something lurking in a shed is all (Inboard power head remains)..............
