Gear box oil how to change ?

Post by Cpt pug wash »

Hi , this question may have been posted before , I can't find it ?
1 how do I check if enough oil / grease in gearbox
2 how do I get cap off gear box , I presume it's anti clockwise to undo I've tried a flat bar & grips to no avail
3 once cap is off , how much oil do I put in it & what oil
Thanks in advance mark

It's a plug not a cap.
A flat bar or the Seagull spanner is usually all that's needed to undo it ( normal RH thread) . Warming the gearcase with hair dryer or hot air gun might help if its tight.

Might as well tip out all the old "oil" Leave it in the sun to drain into a shallow container

Your sjm 2060b6 uses SAE 140 oil. Refill until visible but somewhat below the hole. Stand upright and allow surplus to drain. Refit plug

If the gunge that comes out is really bad. Fill the box with some cheap car engine oil and give it a short run in the tank. Drain and refill with 140 oil
