I would think Charles must get the badge for attending most events on the other side of the world, so is well able to comment.

I would not think it was aimed at you skytoyman, for not venturing south.

Now you have shut the museum, perhaps we might see you down south some time.

I do wonder though how to involve more people in actually using their restored seagulls. The original Hayling Island post has over 6000 views.

But only a few turn up to the event.

Perhaps I am missing what owning Seagulls is all about, but for me using them is a lot of the fun.

How many seagull owners are there that do not own a boat?

As a matter of interest, how many members have we north of the border? How many members live within 2 hours of Chorley or Hayling Island? Can anyone give us these numbers just as a matter of interest. I ask as I wonder if it would be worth while thinking of a Scotland gathering, second it would be of interest to see how many of you guys down south live close to one another.

My comments are aimed at those within 200 miles of the event, and they seem to be the ones who are guilty by their own silence, .
My wheel bin Queens come from looking at how many seagulls are run in wheelly bins only, on YouTube. Not as many on the back of a boat where they belong and the largest share of these are posted by Kiwis, Aussies and Yanks. Most of the wheelly bin ones are posted by Poms.

As for me, if the Essex run would have been on, then I would have been there.
Hayling Island is two and a half hours, I don't have a boat suitable and its normally a long weekend, I cannot do.
As for Cholsey, that would be an hour and a half drive, But it only seemed that two were going, with no other interest.
I haven't done hardly any boating or sailing, its either too windy, too cold, or hissing down.

It's definitely a sort of cultural thing....we have similar issues getting bods to events here in Oz, although we are batting from the bottom of the board anyway, seeing we only formed the Oz owners group a bit over 12 months ago.....

But the "tyranny of distance" applies here too. I live mid-way between Sydney and Brisbane and it's still a 5-6hr drive to get to either of them, which kinda helps me....but not those who live in one and want to go to the other.

My most recent effort was to run a display stand for the Seagull group at the ANMM Classic Boat Show, and five members showed up to say hello, out of a potential 38-odd within easy (less than 2hrs) driving distance.

I'd even offered to meet people at the gate and hand them one of the free passes I'd got for the 'exhibitors' but still had no takers.

Yet in New Zealand, if you advertise that a Seagull will be opening an envelope somewhere, 50 others turn up just to watch.

They 'do things different' on the other side of the Tasman.

Pmsl ! I run my seagulls in a wheelie bin Tinker
. To clean them after I've been out in the harbour > this is what a seagull looks like in it's true environment for those that have forgotton . I have about as much fun winding up the Pommes here as I do savouring the two stroke oil burn .
I'm looking so forward to this weekend meet at Wiatara only about 4hrs each way from home . but I know for sure I'll see some great guys and renew my gull passion . I knew I left some crc here ........ need to spray some around to stop the whine ; ))

Well, the calendar of events must be clear at the moment.

Perhaps we could manage a trip on the Thames this year.

Run the old stuff, Marston, SD, other old Seagulls

Run what you brung, "anything that goes."

SD race to the pub, from the home of British Seagull, looser pays for the first round.

Forty minus race to the pub.

Or just go to the pub and have lunch.

April could be the first date I feel, anyone want to come along?

Also is there interest in the "Round Hayling Island Marathon 2013" for this summer. It looks like the event has legs, It is worth the trip, the Dutch men can't be wrong.

Don't forget the accommodation is great value and very good.

Or will this year be another quiet one.
