Don't think much of that guys boat

Re: On Ebay. Grab It!
Ok, it's a fairly old engine, but no spares, and not much chance of finding another to use for parts. Also not really a sought after make. Could be another one to sit in the corner of the shed..

And a gear box that usually needs dentures!
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: On Ebay. Grab It!
I ain't found one yet where the gears have survived - the gear case splits horizontally, with the consequence they probably had a worse lubrication regime than a Seagull!

Not expecting something so Negative as replies.
Now, you all, read the negatives.
May well do me some good aye?
Else replies not anywhere helpfull to collecting Old Stuff. Like putting everyone off even looking at the Old Man engine.
When something unavailable turns up..................."who Gives a Shit about Wee Little Maybe Problems"
I would imagine that this will go for a Fair Price.
Insular Site some times with crap replies............
I do, however, regard S.O.S as being at the top of the heap.................OK?
Regards

Not sure how to take your comments - I am speaking from personal experience of these motors, and gear cutting - if you could get anyone to take it on - is one of the most expensive oeprations to get done on a one -off basis- way beyond the cost of the motor. But if its only for an ornament - then fine.
Re: On Ebay. Grab It!
Even though it's a not a common motor, the original listing on Ebay was just three pictures and he had no idea what it was and just listed as a seagull.
Now he has been told what it is and posted more pictures, it will either get removed early, like most do when they find out what it is, or go for a silly price.
Some people must think that we don't spot old motors on that site and must be told about them, and this is what you get.

Re: On Ebay. Grab It!
we have all seen what happens when engines get bigged up, price inflation, for stuff that is not really worth it.. We are not being negative, just realistic. An old engine for sub £100 is viable, bigged up to a higher price is not, especially when no parts are available. Magneto alone will cost an arm and a leg to make serviceable.
I'm sure when an interesting old beast appears then speculators will come here to see what the experts think.
CI - Perhaps we are collectively avoiding feeding the beast?

Hmm,not sure what to say next...
I think that secretly we'd all like to have it in our collection, just because it's different
. It's quite old, small, light and awfully English so what could possibly go wrong? As regards magneto repairs, don't get me started...
I had to get the Thomson-Bennett mag from my 1920 Bentall Pioneer rewound and fitted with new bearings last year.........£240!

Re: On Ebay. Grab It!
Not that rare, I know 2 people with 1 & one with 2, I've seen several on ebay over the years, all sub £100 even with the vary pitch prop.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
