Here's one i did a few years back. The decal came from JON@ sos
not strictly correct for the motor but you get the idea!
closer look at the pics show details of the feathers as you mention. Is that the decal you meant?

Hi Jon

Have to have a closer look when cleaning mine. The SD bird had more colours . No matter at this stage as still determined to preserve what is visible at this stage.

Gearbox looks better aye?

I just stripped the paint off.

I dipped the transom bracket just enough to clean green. The copper colour will dull soon.

The original prop that was in the crate is the best of everything that I have so prop shop can even it out between blades etc. The prop was painted by the way.

I'm more at ease looking at this now

BUT.................. just 1 teencey weencey problemette still with this (should have the smaller diameter rope pulley, and not what is fitted at the moment)
Has it got the plain mag cover?
I'm still trying to work out when BS changed to the "normal" diameter pulley (probably mid 50's) so a bit after this one was made.
But that's me being picky. (eagle eyed)

Hmmm

I see no evidence on the plain cover that the pulley has changed diameter. The rope scaring appears uniform for the pulley.

The nut is correct for the pulley as well as the small pulley nut was more....petit.

Perhaps this is one of the crossover examples.

I mentioned earlier that the seller had sent a couple of pics of the motor on Her Grandfather's home made boat.

1961. I will try to get a better submission from Her soon. The conversion from pdf did not work well for the zoomers.........

I can not see what the prop was then.

Looks like a Bow Tie.

The "bowtie" prop is 100% correct for a 102 (AC or AD) built after 1950.
As the motor in question is from 1951 (thereabouts) this stands to reason.

just had a rethink over small and normal diameter rope pulleys!

AC17964 is (by my calculations) 8404 apart in the serial number from the AHC9560L that i'm currently working on.
All of my pre 1950 102's have the small diameter rope pulley, BUT as you suggest,your AC might be one of those transitional motors. (i'd go along with that)
There would seem to be 6-9 months that seperate these 2, so ignore my last comment about rope pulleys.

I admit, i was wrong. (sometimes the data isn't quite as clear as i'd like it, allowing for parts being swapped etc. its difficult to get a handle on things)

Going back a few posts to your gold seagull. this is a photo of my AD19647 production date .close to AC17964 The Seagull decal on the tank is white and I think this transfer is original, so studying yours a little more closely, I wonder if the bulk of the white has rubbed off. You can still see a few spots of white on the birds body. Also the black writing is also well rubbed. So I am thinking that the colours were added one on top of the other to build up the final decal, today, with modern printers, the colours are all separate but 60 years back that was not the case.

Eagle eyes indeed........................just had a look at what you probably sussed this flat edge;

I checked out all my other clamps both on motors and in my "Clamp Box" and came up with that This is Different indeed.

I do not think that it is upside down just not fettled correctly? It may be a spru/riser from the casting process. It does look purposeful however.............

If you use mind eye and flip and rotate to the clutch rod position..................the clamp profile will prevent the cooling outlet pipe from being fitted.

I love Old Dears Big Time just because of observation and discussion with like minded.

Yes the ignition lead is like that as the pipe is just loosely fitted............

Hmmmmm................paint the block for something to do next. It was one of them that was galvanized by the way. 1/2 of it shows that.
