I restored an SDP a few years ago, which the seller assured me had been bought by his father new in 1945. For the last 20 years it had been in the shed covered in thick oil. It had the forward bowl position with plated solid fuel tube to match. Seen several others the same since. That engine is now sold on. Here is the vid I took of it. I think this is the SDP spec, with flat top rimless magneto, but screw adjust points. I removed the chrome from the exhaust as it was all flaking off. Chrome drive leg, brass tiller.

As usual no documentation to prove, just my theory based on observations. I very much doubt we will find documented proof of anything, unless the " long lost records" are found somewhere!

Flat topped flywheel appeared mid to late 46, chromed transom screws 48 ish, air intake shroud, it's been play with quite a bit.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I've yet to see a SDP with a original looking trumpet fitted.

Me too.

Plain "seagull" inlet with no choke seems to be the way things are going on the data.
Still trying to tighten things up a tad with magnetos, still waiting for some juicy data to flop into my in box.

By the way Adrian, if you can remember, did your SDP have a steel tiller or a brass tiller? Mine has a steel tiller with no casting marks anywhere in the aluminium section where the wing nut goes. Also my tiller appears to be a bit longer! (not bragging honest) Steel or brass fuel tank?
Mine has a steel tank! And what remains of a chrome cap. (now very well rubbed away due to age)
My SDP follows a very similar spec to yours. Same transom mounting, same style of fuel pipe (although i've just bent this one to shape quicky for now) polished water pipe (not plated) not that that really matters too much to me.

Correction: just watched the vid again. Brass tiller???
I think Chas might be right. Looks like it might have been messed around with a little.
Not saying that mine is correct either, but very similar.
