Don't want to damage anything. I have a replacement gearbox for my FPL has grit in that needs to be cleaned out and my SJM gearbox that is stiff. There is a brass pin #6 in the drive shaft collar #5. What's the recommended way to remove the brass pin? File off one end and drive it out with a punch?

Re: Removing Driveshaft Collar Pin
Usually the pin comes out rather easily with a punch, it’s fairly soft metal. I use an old drill bit filed flat on the ends that is sized to match the pin. A bit of heat wouldn’t hurt if it’s stubborn.

Yes, the pin can be tapped out with a small piece of bar and if its not damaged it can be reused. When refitting don't forget to peen it over so it cant fall out!

Re: Removing Driveshaft Collar Pin
I think you'll find 3 different types of pin, part number 1412, brass, softish stainless steel & a steel roll pin, all about 1" long & 3/16 diameter.
The roll pin comes out easy if not too rusty.
The brass one is the most difficult as the ends seem to flair out big time & can require careful drilling oversize on one end to remove the flair.
The stainless one if it hasn't been centre punched each end will punch out with care.
Try & avoid the angle grinder the collars aren't cheap!
Good luck!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I've only ever worked with the brass ones, nothing new fangled for me!
