Saving Old Seagulls

Again, good information there. I'm learning lots on here!

That cotton reel type part on the transom mount has one flat area where it contacts the shaft, so I guess it was kept at one spot.

I don't have access to a TIG, but I can certainly try brazing. I will definitely experiment extensively on scrap parts before deciding whether to do the job.. I do like to do things myself, where's the fun otherwise?

Braze is way harder than ally & a different colour & has a high zinc content so prone to oxidation, so talk to your local ally welder for advice.

If you can only braze then dont do it..... you wont be happy with the result. you will be better to just file down the rough spots.
