I really do not want to appear not to appreciate the work and concern put into the SOS website - however -

- has this happened because Ebay has a new website Phd student let loose? Our original was easy on the eye, we had got used to it - it scanned well. I hate this new format and I am not impressed nor do I wish to understand what phBB means. Change just for the sake of it?

Ah well, I replied with with my opinion to Ebay but there is a possibility it will not revert to the original just for me . . .

There were two main reasons for upgrading to the latest version of phpBB.

1. So that John would have an easier life... he has another board to maintain that is the same version as this (apart from all the websites he maintains).

2. So that we can still get proper support in the future if things go wrong.

I'm personally very sorry if some of you don't like it, but I have installed extra styles that you can choose yourself if you go to the User Control Panel and choose Board Preferences, once you are logged in, some of them are almost exactly the same as the old style but don't have the functionality of the default one we are using.

If you can be more specific about what you don't like then I will do my best to make some changes for you.

Nope... 'fraid not, I guess it would be too much work for the boys in what, 60 languages??? Only people like Microsoft (bless them) have the money to do suff like that!

If I am bothered (which I generally am) I open an MS Word document, paste this text... do a spell check.. and note any corrections.
A lot of people don't like Microsoft, mainly because they make a lot of money, but in fact, MS have the largest proportion of millionaire secretaries in the world... that's because they have always given all their employees shares. Microsoft still gets a royalty on every IBM compatible PC, whether or not it has Windows on it, that was how Bill Gates really made his money. He wasn't a particularly brilliant programmer, but he was a brilliant businessman! The address for MS is; One Microsoft Way... All offices at MS are the same size, except Bill Gates', which is twice the size (and, I guess, is now empty). All offices have a widow looking outwards. Bill Gates, his wife and father spend all their time looking for ways to give his money away. Bill Gates will leave only a very small (by their standards) amount to his kids when he dies... he believes he has given them the best start he could (in terms of education and upbringing)... it's up to them now. As a user, once you know how to use Windows, you should be able to use any program developed for it. As a web builder I have to check my work on over 60 different web browsers... it would be so much easier if I only had to use Internet Explorer... guess I'm just lazy!
Having said all that, the guys who wrote the program which gives us this forum, did it for nothing... bless them too!

Brendan, you do really seem a terribly nice and personable chap - watch out or us stationary engine watchers could grow to appreciate the foibles of the computer instead of just being irritated by having to learn something else new . . .

. . . I did use Windows to draft this using an arcane font with dazzling colour scheme but it reverted to this.

In my humble opinion, there are the grumpy and there are the complacent.
