The Exhaust on the Seagull 40 Plus is usually chrome plated is this true and if so can the chrome be removed to reveal a brass tube. I have two of these engines and would like to strip off the chrome and polish the Brass. At present most of the chrome is peeling away and i would like to reveal the Brass. My wife says do not waste my time but I would rather do this than cut the Lawn!!!!!!!!!!! I have painted them at the moment with Aluminium Hammerite which I can easily remove.

i use a small grinder with a sanding disc on it works a treat
then use a sander to get it even better looks much more classic
and as you say is more fun than cutting the grass

Before you try the angle grinder try a water jet if your chrome is flaking, quite a lot will be removed with the water jet.
All chromed Seagull exhaust tubes were brass.
If you want to end up with a polished brass tube, ring your local chrome platers & ask how much to strip back to the brass?
Having it stripped while there is a cost involvement might be a lot easier than trying to polish angle grinder marks from soft brass.

Dont forget i did say a sanding wheel and not a grinding wheel
and "very lightly" does it...im a steel worker so i have a lot of experience with a grinder...if you do it right you can get a good enough finish...helps when the sanding disc is worn and has lost its edge....and from what ive seen there is brass under that chrome but test on the end
