Virtually anything that will clamp round a tube of that diameter will do.
I use a bicycle handlebar clamp.

I use a 40+ on a 6 foot ply tender I built myself. It is probably a bit overpowered, but it does the job nicely. I found that mine was reluctant to start because of exhaust back pressure, as it was too deep in the water, but I fixed that by putting a collar round the tube just above the bracket.

I don't know the design in detail - I just assumed there must be some kind of seal stopping inlet gases leaking past the crankshaft bearings.
As luck would have it, I have just been given another identical model from someone's garage, and after cleaning up the plugs, points and fuel filter, it runs ...

No, it's stiff all the time, doesn't change at TDC. It's not the prop end, and there is no clutch. It looks like I'll have to open up the engine and look at the rigs and bearings.
It seems an odd coincidence that it has happened so suddenly but not while running, and hasn't run since it cut out. Can ...

Crankshaft suddenly seized up
Following on my post in Dohnut's thread, I thought I had exactly the same symptoms as his 40+.
However, prolonged attempts at starting have lead to a sudden new development - the crankshaft has gone very stiff to turn. It is impossible to spin the flywheel with the cord, and hardly possible with two ...

I can see how that would work if the engine is mounted low down, and you can bend over it from above. But sitting on a thwart in a small dinghy puts the flywheel at about chest height, so it is very difficult to brace the engine without risk of touching the flywheel. The boat isn't really stable ...

Steadying motor while starting
I am getting down to using my newly serviced Seagull, and have several observations. I don't know whether these are well known, or I am doing something wrong:
1) There is nothing to brace the motor against while starting, other than rather precariously holding the petrol tank while trying to avoid ...

Importance of vertical shaft?
I tried out the 40 Plus on the water for the first time at the weekend. It was extremely difficult to start, but once started, ran perfectly, and would restart easily when still hot. Idling and pick up were fine, but I noticed it dripped constantly from the carburettor, and needed a tiny amount of ...

One thing that might possibly be indicative of something; everyone has talked of a dimple or slight depression in the crankcase collar, and 3 turns of the screw to lock the screw in it.
Mine has a hole the size of the screw going all the way through. Once located, the screw turns a further 1/4 " or ...
